Due to additional demands on the digital team, and the emphasis on digital development as one of our key practice areas, we are looking to recruit additional developers to deliver various browser-based applications and websites to a high standard. The primary focus of the role is to work on the development and delivery of various browser-based applications and websites. The role is responsible for collecting requirements, specifying, estimating, designing, coding, modifying and testing code.

Ideal candidates will have a solid background in software development using a range of tools within project management methodologies, have strong communication skills and be commercially astute. This role calls for an experienced and adaptable individual who has the ability to transform our vision into a reality using extensive digital development skills.

Principal accountabilities

Person specification

Essential

  • Minimum 1 year in a digital development environment, with experience of developing quality web products including responsive design and mobile web development from initial concept stage to delivery
  • Web development skills in JavaScript, PHP, HTML, CSS, Object-Oriented Design, Web Services (REST), API’s
  • Knowledge of MySQL (+some SQLite, MongoDB, redis)
  • Understanding of Linux, Unix and Windows
  • Good knowledge of version control systems such as GIT
  • Grasp of web security principles
  • Understanding of modern web technologies
  • Knowledge of implementing web accessibility standards
  • Experience of mitigating cross-browser/platform issues
  • Strong verbal and written communication ability
  • Proven ability to operate in a team environment liaising with diverse teams
  • Ability to manage a varied workload and prioritise tasks, work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Experience of using own initiative, with a problem-solving attitude
  • Able to manage time and multiple projects effectively, both individually and as part of a team

Desirable

  • Web development skills in TypeScript, Angular, Node, JQuery, Web User Interface Design (UI)
  • Experience of WordPress theme development
  • Experienced in writing unit and functional tests
  • Experience of creating wireframes for web layouts
  • Working knowledge of AWS
  • Degree in Software engineering or Computer science
  • Good eye for visual design
  • Proven ability to operate with diverse teams in an international setting.

Reporting and organisation

This is a UK based position reporting to the Digital Manager and is based in Bath. It is a permanent role. This is a full-time position and requests for flexible working arrangements will be considered. Occasional travel may be required.

Salary and package

Starting salary range: £27,000 -£40,000 (within job level 5)
Holiday: 25 days per annum + public holidays (pro rated for part time employees)
Pension: 8% employer contribution
